Building Little Free Libraries to promote education around healthy relationships
As part of a new partnership arrangement with Safer London Foundation, we will be building Little Free Libraries in several London boroughs to help promote Safer London’s Empower programme.
Safer London Foundation’s Empower programme provides advice, information and support for young people on developing healthy relationships in order to make informed choices and avoid and/or reduce the risk of sexual exploitation and sexual violence. The findings of a recent poll found that most young people are not receiving this support at home and therefore they may be at increased risk of sexual exploitation and sexual violence.
The results of this poll lead to our partnership. The Little Free Libraries will be stocked with free books and multi-media resources to help families and young people improve their knowledge of developing healthy relationships, understand the meaning of consent and keep safe.
Each of the Little Free Libraries will be themed and artistically designed to promote the Empower programme in London. Young women engaging with Empower will also be involved in creating the libraries.
“Helping to Empower young women by providing free access to key resources seemed like an extremely positive way to use a Little Free Library. We are very glad to be able to support the Empower programme.” (Nick Cheshire, Director Little Free Library Project UK).
